ANA Star Wars Dreamliner 787-9 Review to Tokyo Narita

This is my first time onboard Al Nippon Airways (ANA) bound for Tokyo Narita (NRT). I always fly Cathay Pacific Airways but after so many flights of stopping over Hong Kong before landing in Osaka KIX, I decided it’s time for a change.

This time, I flew a direct flight to Tokyo Narita, and experienced sunrise and a full moon at the same time. I couldn’t decide where to look at. Both views were so mesmerizing.

Where else can I experience this but at 30,000 feet in the air?

Inflight meals and inflight entertainment

The Dreamliner 787 was a smooth journey on my way to Tokyo Narita, with the Skytrax’s Best Customer Service serving inflight meals three times in a flight – drink, a snack and a meal an hour before landing. This makes it quite competitive compared to Cathay Pacific’s measly pocket sandwiches that did nothing to fill my hungry stomach.

I happily drank the entire can of Asahi while watching a few local shows about traveling in Japan. Their inflight entertainment selection is not much but I think this is a smart move for an airline company. Less content license fees, better food and drinks selection.

I dozed off into a slumber onboard this red eye flight, exhausted. I woke up and my empty beer can was gone. Thank you for that great service, ANA!

Cold soba, beef gyudon and Meiji yogurt fits well as my breakfast meal an hour before landing. This was two thumbs up!

Its lavatory is one of the cleanest I’ve seen. No musty smell in the middle of the flight, which is a relief compared to Delta‘s pungent smell.

ANA Star Wars Jet

On my way back, I was a little surprised to see my plane had morphed into an R2-D2 themed Dreamliner. Hello, Star Wars jet!

John Williams’ iconic Star Wars theme welcomes you as you step into the aircraft.

Economy seat covers are also R2-D2 themed.

It was amazing as Anthony Daniels’ C-3PO voice would greet you for takeoff and landing, which makes it quite a pleasant flight. It kind of reduces the hangover that I would be leaving Tokyo after my quick vacation!

And flight attendants give you this as a souvenir. Nice touch, ANA!

There are other Star Wars themed jets if you happen to chance upon it, including the Millennium Falcon, C-3PO and BB-8. Flight attendants have a really cute galley attire that matches the Star Wars jet. They only offer this experience in selected flights.

If you’re bound for Tokyo, ANA offers a great alternative compared to Singapore Airlines.
