THE COFFEE ACADEMICS, Italian Coffee Shop in Hong Kong

Coffee Academics Hong Kong

Its hotspots like The Coffee Academics that Instagram continues to flourish. Snapping photos of your latte art or the coolest coffee shop you have sat in at the moment is showing no signs of slowing down. That in itself is a cycle that hasn’t managed to disrupt itself yet, no. We are all contented by sipping latte by the window, watching hipsters grab a stool at the counter and sip their own drip coffee. I’ve dreamed of one paradise at a certain point in the last year Coffee Academics has been leading specialty coffee shops in Hong Kong.

The luxury of time doesn’t permit me to sit and do the same. My schedule will only allow me for a latte take away and nothing more. While I would have loved to indulge in their gourmet sandwiches and even more flamboyant coffee drinks like Blanton’s Whisky Barrel Bourton Single, time is of the essence. Only a single cup will make or break my Coffee Academics experience.

Regardless if it’s just a take away or for dine in, the quality shouldn’t diminish. And I was sorely disappointed with my cup. The hype of this Italian Coffee Shop that names their drinks sound like a loaded drink is just forgotten with a single sip. This is a coffee made by Cafe Habitu purveyors. I had to convince myself.

Perhaps it was such a rush drinking it take away that Coffee Academics fell below my expectations.

Perhaps, the entire Coffee Academics experience is banking on its solid, artistic interiors meant to be captured by your camera.

I’m willing to return for a second cup. Coffee Academics is such a giant to generalize.

I can only hope my ratings will increase on my second visit.

  1. I finally saw where this was during the last trip! We were just walking along the streets and this suddenly appears! Hahaha!! 🙂 To be honest, a friend of mine said that places like this – Coffee Academics, Mott32, La Vache and some others are just an instagram brag. She feels that most (if not all) Pinoys who go to these three places go for the sake of being able to snap pictures and post them on instagram (and not because they’re IG worthy) it’s sort of a *brag* for her and she’s so very irritated by that. She says that HK has a lot more not so famous places to eat that cost less than what is offered by those three. Hahaha!! Kaya dinala kami sa Lei Garden to try the cha siu that is soft and good but is not even Iberico. Hahahaha!! 🙂

    1. Hello Didi! how was La Vache for you? 🙂

I didn’t like Coffee Academics and as I blogged, I should probably sit down and really take in the ambience, the coffee and the food but again there’s that danger of being only instagram-worthy but not really good cuisine. Agree with you! I prefer Cafe Corridor though when it comes to a great cup of latte, and it was better than all the coffee I’ve tried even in the US (no kidding!). 🙂

      1. We decided not to go to La Vache na. Friends and family in HK all discouraged it. Hahaha! So Panget said wag nalang daw. I was excited pa naman. Hahaha!! Next time, when I’m alone – maybe! hihih…:)

        1. awww that’s too bad 🙁 samahan nalang kita hehehe

          1. Sige!! I’m going back November! (Sumama ka na para makapag La Vache ako) hahahaha!! 🙂
