Curry Monster was our last restaurant stop when I visited Macau with my friends last June 2013. We hadn’t really planned it, but since we’re all avid fans of Japanese cuisine, we decided to give it a try. Our last meal in Macau! (Note: I actually spotted this inside a cab on our way to Senado Square, furiously pointing at it, wondering what Curry Monster has to offer. I’m glad it’s also in Taipa Village!)
Turns out my instincts were right.
Don’t confuse Curry Monster with Monster Curry in Singapore. Curry Monster is popular in Macau as a quick fix to your Tonkatsu cravings. If you know me, I’m never a fan of Tonkatsu set meals since they’re rather overpriced. It’s just full of unlimited cabbage that you can easily buy in a grocery!
But if you’re a fan of Tonkatsu set meals, Curry Monster also has it in their menu for only MOP 99, complete with some cold tofu, miso soup & cabbage. But this isn’t what caught my eye.
If you’re clever enough you’d spot their cheap rice bowls that you can get for MOP 45 for two bowls.

You can actually choose between Tonkatsu pork or chicken katsu for your meat. I daresay one person cannot really finish two bowls so you can share with your friend. Of course you can tell the waiter to make it extra spicy for the curry. *wink wink*
And where else can find a cheap unagi bowl that’s delicious and light on the pocket as well? I’d say Curry Monster has it.

And there’s the classic Chirashi bowl. My friend is a Chirashi addict and he’s rummaging the town for the best Chirashi fix.

This doesn’t look cheap. And yet it is.
I’d return to Curry Monster again with no doubt, since most restaurants and food courts in hotels along Cotai Strip are relatively expensive nowadays. (Budget is around MOP 45 for a rice topping.)
