Ikigai Kakigori Cafe
Tucked inside a dubious building which used to house closed restaurants Nomnomnom Happy Food and Twist are two tiny Japanese restaurants slowly gaining traction among hippies and adventurous foodies. While there’s an ongoing road construction outside, it doesn’t prevent people from trying out these vegetarian-friendly restaurants. On the other hand, I appreciate the timing of a vegetarian restaurant other than Greens and those fancy cold pressed juices. But having a light meal at Wabi Sabi doesn’t prevent me from indulging on a mountainous dessert. Meet Ikigai Kakigori.
Kakigori, like the Korean Bingsu, is a Japanese shaved iced dessert designed to make you fat. That smooth shaved Japanese ice is drizzling with homemade syrup, a lightly sweetened scoop of ice cream, and more, more, more toppings that appear innocent but is packed with mighty calories. While a Bingsu can easily go for 1000 calories a serving, I can just imagine how this Kakigori is going to put weight on me.
Kuromitsu Kakigori – P180 (Solo); P240 (To Share)
That doesn’t hinder me from getting a Kuromitsu Kakigori, complete with mochi, adzuki beans and Hojicha ice cream. Drizzle it with some homemade syrup and I am done for. I am told this is their bestseller, among their Mango, Chocolate, Ichigo and Coffee flavors.
The best part of this dessert is finely shaved ice. I’m known for eating ice for snack since I was a kid. *bats eyelashes* It might look innocent, but it’s actually the fattening part of the dessert. You’ve been warned.
This solo dessert is so huge, and I need someone to help me finish it!
Perhaps you can Snapchat me @candidcuisine and share this dessert with me.
