I missed Mighty Quinn’s a lot. I was on the hunt for a really good slab of beef brisket here in Singapore. My search led me to Burnt Ends and Meatsmith. Burnt Ends served a really great piece of Onglet. So Meatsmith upped my expectations.

I just wanted my beef brisket, slaw, and corn bread. Just the way I like it. I don’t like sausages at all, and I wasn’t in the mood for buffalo wings, so I didn’t order their platter. I was thinking the food might be too much for me, but the portion size was just right for me.

The beef brisket? My photo isn’t doing it justice. But it’s tender, flavorful with that salt and pepper rub, and just the right amount of fat I wanted to indulge in. I didn’t like the smoky bbq sauce. It was a little too spicy for beef brisket, and it overpowered the richness of the meat so I went without it.

The slaw had the right amount of acidity in it, and I loved the raisins sprinkled here and there.

But the highlight of my dish was the cornbread with smoked butter. Jesus. That slathered honey on top of it was heaven in every morsel and I had to bite back my groan while I was eating it. Really, really good side to go along with the fatty brisket.

Some have been saying that the brisket was a hit or miss, but I’m glad it was a hit when I was eating there. I would go back and try again and see if they were consistent. But chances are, I think they’re going to nail it again.

I guess my bbq cravings are satisfied.

(Btw, if you are in Doha, Meatsmith also has a branch there.)
