Pasta Brava, Duxton Hill, Singapore
I’ve been craving for a really good plate of pasta. In Singapore, there’s not a lot of authentic places for Italian cuisine. My search led me to Duxton Hill, a place where I’ve been meaning to trek for quite some time now.
Pasta Brava stood out for me, not only because it’s the oldest Italian restaurant in Singapore (since 1991), but because it reminded me of a cross between Bucca di Beppo and my childhood favorite, Italiannis (You can’t go wrong with warm trenches of focaccia, olive oil, and balsamic vinegar). To a lesser extent, even Va Bene Pasta Deli, a favorite of mine back in Makati. These are mainstream restaurants, probably the closest we can have to an authentic Italian experience.
Stracci ai gamberi e capesante – SGD 29
So Pasta Brave did not disappoint. I love their Stracci ai gamberi e capesante, Pasta Brava’s homemade pasta heavily drenched in saffron sauce, green peppercorns. Shrimp and Scallops, while reserved in portions, is great for one person.
Now, what’s missing is some bread on the side. This is one thing that the restaurant needs to be improve on.
I had heard Pasta Brava will be moving in January 2022 to their new place at The Scarlet Hotel in Erskine Road. Such a shame to be closing down the doors of their birth place, always an idea I detest, because who wouldn’t love Godfather interiors?
But then, with their steady stream of loyal patrons, I have no doubt Pasta Brava would continue to do well.
