Laboracay is Over: These Quezon City Restaurants Will Break Your Diet Streak

Laboracay is over. If you’ve been eating lunch packs from diet delivery services since the start of the year, chances are you have already lost weight by then. Congratulations to you! Now it’s time for you to end that diet streak.

There’s no better place to start unleashing the inner foodie in you than heading to the quiet neighborhood of Quezon City with your pals. (Or just go on your own, if you don’t want anyone finding out these hidden gems in Quezon City. Let’s keep this a secret, between you and I.) Here’s a list of Quezon City restaurants to break your diet streak! Because we all agree, being on a diet is more expensive than binge eating.

1. THE NEW KING CHEF

Location: 987-989 Banawe Street, Manresa, Quezon City
Break Your Diet Streak Scale: Light
Cuisine: Chinese

Let’s start somewhere “light”. You can always go to the revamped King Chef Dimsum Kitchen to pretend like you’re eating healthy for less during their dimsum promo hours, when in fact you’re eating more variety of dishes and gaining more pounds. But I like heading to their newly renovated first branch at Banawe. It’s all because of these Salted Egg Shrimps.

2. ZIPANG: Modern Japanese Cuisine

Location: #6 11th Jamboree Street corner Scout Fuentebella, Quezon City
Break Your Diet Streak Scale: Light
Cuisine: Japanese

If you’re tired of the usual suspects in Japanese Cuisine like Ramen Nagi, Ariake and Omakase, ZIPANG’s huge servings will definitely make you break your diet rituals. Zipang’s teishoku meals are affordable and you can share a meal with another friend. My tip? Order the Sankozuyaki Teishoku, golden crispy chicken whose servings are made for three.

3. ANTOJOS RESTAURANTE

Location: 238 Banawe Center, Panalturan Street, Banawe, Quezon City
Break Your Diet Streak Scale: Moderate
Cuisine: Filipino

Loved this crispy bicol express, very flavorful & crunchy. @antonamoncio @antojos.manila

Who doesn’t know Antojos? The hidden gem from Little Baguio, San Juan recently transferred to the foodie street of Banawe Center to create buzz in Filipino cuisine. Don’t we all feel that Banawe lacks in the Filipino cuisine department? Antojos’ creamy entrees like Cheesy Beef Kaldereta and Crispy Bicol Express will make you crave for more rice and indulge in a feast.

4. GRIND & CO.

Location: 28-C Scout Tuason Street, Laging Handa, Quezon City
Break Your Diet Streak Scale: Light
Cuisine: American; Mexican

Grind & Co’s burgers appear innocent, bringing that aura of home cooked burgers in a simple fast food restaurant. But I don’t doubt you’ll be tempted to order a double patty, add some bacon and egg, and have a side of nachos and wings plus milkshake. I love a good calorie bender. The grease will definitely make you happy and stress free.

5. H CUISINE: Home of the Most Awesome Angus Beef Belly

Location: 64 Scout Rallos Street, Sacred Heart, Quezon City
Break Your Diet Streak Scale: Moderate
Cuisine: Comfort

The photo says it all. They don’t call themselves “Home of the Most Awesome Angus Beef Belly” if their beef belly doesn’t live up to your expectations. At H Cuisine, each bite of their Most Awesome Angus Beef Belly is oh-so-tender and layered with fat, enough to make you finish one whole order of to-share beef belly by yourself. (P.S. I can finish one order. I think.)

6. EL CANGREJO

Location: Unit D1, Jardin De Zenaida, 34 Sgt. Esguerra, South Triangle, Quezon City
Break Your Diet Streak Scale: Light
Cuisine: International

This is one hell of a seafood lovers paradise. El Cangrejo claims 500-600 grams of their specialty crabs are good for one person. Clearly, that’s for someone who’s about to break their diet streak. Don’t forget their scallops, shrimp cocktails and the Surf and Turf combinations that are pretty much affordable compared to other restaurants. Oh did I mention they also serve unlimited wine and oysters?

7. MANTARO

Location: 57B Scout Tobias Corner Scout Limbaga, Tomas Morato, Quezon City
Break Your Diet Streak Scale: Moderate
Cuisine: Peruvian

Mantaro isn’t called the “Original Peruvian Restaurant” for nothing. The former Chef of Don Andres Luis Higa recently reopened his restaurant at Scout Tobias after branching out from Don Andres. You can still enjoy the rest of the Peruvian favorites here like Pulpo Al Olivo, Arroz con Mariscos and the Peruvian rotisserie chicken with three sauces they are famous for.

8. THAIPAN

Location: 120 Scout Dr. Lazcano Street, Tomas Morato, Quezon City
Break Your Diet Streak Scale: Dangerous
Cuisine: Thai

Oh, anyone who loves to eat Thai food knows that this coconut milk filled fantasy cuisine will definitely ruin your diet rituals. Take Thaipan, the so called “People’s Palace of Quezon City”, for example. That Beef Curry and Pad Thai combination plus a nice bowl of Bagoong Rice is a serious temptation and is not for the faint of heart. (Offhand, I think their food needs to increase their spicy levels.)

9. CASA MARCOS

Location: 2nd Floor, Il Terrazo, Tomas Morato, Quezon City
Break Your Diet Streak Scale: Deadly
Cuisine: Spanish

Very few know that Casa Marcos has opened another store at Il Terrazo. Beware of its Sangria, Paella and Lengua combinations. Once you drink, you can’t stop.

Crabs. Coconut Milk. Sangria. Paella. Fatty Belly. Life is too short to miss these guilty pleasures.

All for the hedonist in you,
