Salt Lick BBQ: Best Texas BBQ from Driftwood, Texas!

Texas is larger than life. This state is the second largest state in the United States and because of its size, you can also expect the best cuisine in the South. That includes Texas BBQ. If you think you have tried barbecued meat from the grill and declare it as the best ever, wait until you have tried authentic Texas BBQ.

Salt Lick BBQ is just one of the many barbeque chains in Texas, but it’s one of my favorite. Located in Driftwood, Texas, you don’t need to line up for hours just to get a taste of their fresh off the smoke and grill for the best barbeque in Texas. Others may prefer Franklin’s, a hugely popular restaurant that earns the longest line even in wee hours in the morning, but for me, Salt Lick does the trick.

This place is cash only, by the way, but they have ATM machines in the restaurant.

Yes, the place is in the middle of nowhere but as you enter the restaurant, you’ll be welcomed with friendly Texan locals. They offer you bright smiles because they know you’re about to gain some pounds!

I was allowed to take videos of their barbeque as they were being cooked over the coals to perfection. And I was really amazed at how it smells so good being near the charcoal. Part of the art of barbeque lies in mastery and Salt Lick has been doing this since 1967.

I recommend going to Salt Lick BBQ with a large group, so you get to try a little bit of everything. Also, their plates are huge.

Yep, it was like one big happy family, eating like there’s no tomorrow. Hey, you can’t blame me for eating a little bit of everything. For the first time ever, I liked eating sausage. And you know how much I hated sausages.

We tried their Brisket ($16.95), Sausage ($9.95), Pork Ribs ($12.95), Bison Ribs ($21.95) and Pulled Pork (13.95) and each of the Salt Lick Plates come with beans, coleslaw and potato salad. I loved the coleslaw because the acidity cuts through the savory taste of the meat. The potato salad was a little bit too heavy for me, but you need carbs of course. You also get served with Texas Toast. Nothing special, just the standard loaf of bread that you can use to wipe your plates. You could also get a combination of each, which we also did, and it costs cheaper.

Overall, you would just lick your fingers afterward.
