SERENDIPITY 3 Las Vegas: Beyond the Opulence & Frrrozen Hot Chocolates

Serendipity

[ser-uh n-dip-i-tee]
noun. the art of making happy discoveries or finding the unexpectedly pleasant by chance or sagacity. a fortunate accident

Jonathan: Let me tell you something. This is the ultimate blend to drink. Where did you find this place?
Sarah: I first came in because of the name. Serendipity. It’s one of my favorite words.
Jonathan: It is? Why?
Sarah: ‘Cause it’s such a nice sound for what it means: a fortunate accident.

Serendipity 3 Las Vegas

There’s hardly any concept of accidents when I passed by Serendipity 3 in Las Vegas. I recall the tiny iconic patisserie in New York known for its frequent appearances in film and couldn’t wait to try out this store in Las Vegas. From the outside, it seemed like the ultimate tourist trap, adjacent to the Caesars Palace’s Forum Shoppes and another ice skating rink I believed to be built to relive Jonathan Trager’s favorite New York moment with Sarah Thomas.

But this is Las Vegas. It is hard to reenact the natural aura that New York emits in films. The place is meant for one night stands, shotgun weddings, and drunken texts. Of course I am exaggerating. From the outside, I can hardly believe that a tiny New Yorker patisserie thrives on tourists that couldn’t be more happier than whatever happens in Vegas.

Turns out that appearances can be deceiving. Stepping inside with an old friend way back from High School and her boyfriend, I was surprised ~ no, shocked ~ at how cramped the supposedly cozy reputation Serendipity used to have. I didn’t know that Serendipity was a battleground diner for screaming innocent kids in Las Vegas.

Are you travelling with kids in Las Vegas? If you do, Serendipity 3 might be the pacifier for your toddlers.

Never mind the long wait as long as the food is at par to the customers clamouring for seats. This is a diner, not a patisserie.

Portobello Mushroom Burger – $22

Serendipity 3 Las Vegas

Serendipity 3’s Portobello Mushroom Burger was just alright, the only consolation in my mind was the portobello mushroom and mozzarella cheese that maybe was much, much better than the burgers in Manila. After all, I am in good hands with burgers in America right?

Penne ala Vodka with Sausage and Peppers – $22

Serendipity 3 Las Vegas

I didn’t like the Penne pasta. I found it overcooked.

Meat Madness Pizza – $22

Serendipity 3 Las Vegas

Nothing special about Serendipity’s Meat Madness Pizza, although I was thankful for the fair serving size for all three entrees. The crust was too toasted to the point of nearly burnt pizza crust.

Mint Frrrozen Hot Chocolate – $13

Serendipity 3 Las Vegas

When in Serendipity 3, skip the entrees and just order the Frrrozen Hot Chocolate. I love Mint and Chocolate together, so I ordered this sinful, sinful, sinful dessert. It’s one of the best, richest chocolate I ever had. If I had to choose the right name for this, it had to be Gluttony. There’s no way you could pass the opportunity to drink the famous Serendipity 3 drink that Jonathan drank after sharing the tales of “Jonathan and the Gloves.”

Serendipity 3 Las Vegas

Serendipity 3 holds the Guiness Book of World Records for the Most Expensive Dessert in the World, the Golden Opulence Sundae priced at $1000.

Serendipity 3 does have a to-go counter outside for their famous desserts and drinks.

Serendipity 3 Las Vegas

Maybe it’s the whimsical vibe that Serendipity 3 has on the outside, the colors too loud for my liking and a medium-sized ferris wheel could have complimented the kid-magnet cafe. But perhaps we can all forgive the misfits in exchange for the happiness we get from their Frrrozen Hot Chocolate.

Special thanks to my friends Val and Roy for the dinner. It’s the great company I enjoyed. Next time, let’s head somewhere better. 🙂
