Hailed in South Beach Food and Wine Festival 2014’s Best Burger, SHAKE SHACK is a New-York based modern “roadside burger stand” fast food restaurant owned by Union Square Hospitality Group (USHG) well-known for its 100% Angus beef burgers, fresh cut fries, shakes and frozen custard. In 2004, Shake Shack started as a humble hotdog stand back in Madison Square Garden, without realizing its potential to be expanded as a chain restaurant.
Today Shake Shack has branches in New York, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, Washington, Florida, New Jersey, Russia, Middle East, Turkey and the United Kingdom.
Shake Shack Menu
A glance at Shake Shack’s menu would tell you, you can easily consume nearly 2000 calories in a single meal. And my experience at Shake Shack will certainly prove this to the point.
It’s classically a fast food restaurant and you’re given a beeper when your order is ready.
The ShackBurger
The ShackBurger is by nature a cheeseburger topped with lettuce, tomato and drizzled with their special Shack Sauce. You can choose between a single patty or double patty. By default, all of Shake Shack’s burgers are cooked medium, so you’ll have to let them know if you’d like it to be cooked well-done.
The SmokeShack
The SmokeShack is the fiesty, rebellious version of the ShackBurger, added with all-natural applewood smoked bacon. It’s homemade brioche buns are laced with chopped cherry pepper that is really spicy but I loved it.
Here’s an even more close up shot of my SmokeShack. See the red bellpepper sticking in my buns? It was so spicy, my nostrils breathe fire!
Other variants of ShackBurger include the ‘Shroom Burger, curiously crisp fried portobello mushroom filled with melted muenster and cheddar cheese. If you’re up for more calories, there’s always the Shack Stack, the cheeseburger and the ‘Shroom Burger packed in the brioche buns.
My SmokeShack would be so lonely without friends. It’s better off with some deadly companions.
Now this is one deadly combination.
Hand Cut Fries
For only $2.89, Shake Shack’s hand cut fries became much of a commotion way back, but since then these are all homegrown and made to perfection, with skin. Thus there’s much flavors in a single fry that’s a perfect companion to your ShackBurger.
Chocolate Milkshake
And of course I had to drown everything in Shake Shack’s guilty eponymous please, the Milkshake. Shake Shack’s Milkshakes are hailed as some of the best in the indsutry. Their Milkshake concoctions is incredibly thick in texture, with an almost ice cream-ish consistency. I had to wait for it to melt before I can slurp in my straw. You can definitely share this with another friend because you won’t be able to finish this. It’s inherently large in size.
And there you go, that’s nearly 2000 calories in a single meal if you’re eating a burger, fries and milkshake.
If you ask me how it fares versus In-N-Out, I’m all out for Shake Shack, hands down.
