To all sushi lovers, the best sushi can be found at Tsukiji market. Yes, forget about smelling musty in the morning, and waking up very early in the morning, because a trip to Tsukiji market is going to be one of the best sushi you will have.

I would recommend heading straight to any sushi spot to have a breakfast, instead of walking around Tsukiji market as the lines can get very very long, especially at Sushi Dai or Daiwa Sushi, where the wait can spend 2-3 hours of your precious time in Tokyo. And if you really want to see the tuna auction, you must be there at 4:00am! (But then the trains won’t start their operation by then.)

Yes, head straight, because these boxed uni will certainly tempt you!

But if you’re not an early bird person, Sushi Zanmai is opened for 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, as it claims the only sushi restaurant being opened 24/7. It’s great for cheap maguro zanmai, and the sushi like the others, also fresh and perfect to eat.

ZANMAI DELUXE – 3100 Yen

I wanted to taste everything, so I ordered the Zanmai Deluxe, which is a pretty good sampler at Sushi Zanmai. Yes, everyone at the sushi counter was staring at me as I gobbled down my beautiful, delicious sushi platter.

The sampler has Ottoro, Chuttoro, Squid, Ikura, Uni, Ebi, Tamago, and of course, the lovely Anago eel, which has been torched right in front of me. And it’s wonderfully in season during the summer of August.

My favorite, without a doubt, was the Anago Eel. Sweet, fresh and very clean fish.

The Uni was quite creamy, but it wasn’t sweet, as it wasn’t Hokkaido Uni. I prefer Hokkaido Uni though.

The Tsukiji market is closed on holidays and Sundays, but it’s best to consult the Tsukiji Market calendar so you wouldn’t miss this important meal in your trip.

And after you’ve had your Sushi breakfast, head to Marutake Tamagoyaki, to get your 100 yen breakfast omelette.

New Location of Tsukiji

Tsukiji Market will be moving its location to Toyosu by March 2015 to pave way for the Summer Olympic Games in 2020. It’s best you visit Tsukiji before it moves as there are a lot of resources in the web that can help you in finding Tsukiji location.
