10 Magical Things to Buy at Wizarding World of Harry Potter, USJ
Entering the Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Universal Studios Japan can be overwhelming. The lure of the Forbidden Journey is going to suck you in and never going to let you go. Unless you got timed entry tickets and Express Pass as I suggested, chances are you will spend the entire day at the Forbidden Journey line.
That’s a waste of time, because Gladrags Wizarding Wear, Zonkos, Ollivander’s and Honeydukes at Diagon Alley are so enticing to miss, you’ll wish you can take home the entire store with you.
So as mere muggles, we want to take home with us a couple of souvenirs to remind us of the magical Wizarding World of Harry Potter and some essentials for first timers to buy. Stocks run out too, so best to grab that opportunity when you have the chance.
Be warned that these merchandise items are a bit expensive so choose wisely what you think suits you best. There are some that are just nice to have but not a complete necessity. Here at the top 10 things to buy at the Wizarding World of Harry Potter.
Harry Potter’s Wand
When you’re in the Wizarding World of Harry Potter, it’s no brainer you have to buy yourself a wand. Whether it be the eccentric and highly coveted wand of Bellatrix Lestrange, the all omnipotent Elder’s Wand, or the standard Harry Potter wand that the hero snapped in the Forbidden Forest, you must, must, must get yourself a wand. (Tip: Voldemort’s wand looks so evil but for collector’s out there, this wand stands out from the rest of the pack.)
Bertie Bott’s Every Flavor Beans
Just a single pack of Bertie Bott’s Every Flavor Beans for the entire gang is enough to keep your day interesting. Think of flavors outside of booger and earwax — dirt, spinach and sardines are flavors you must bravely try to get the whole experience. Personally, I hated the cinnamon flavor. And dirt is terrible, smelled like earth!
At USJ, the flavors guide is in Japanese, so tread carefully!
Chocolate Frogs
Eenie meenie mini moe, which of these boxes will give me a rare card? If you can collect all cards like Ron Weasley, good for you! I managed to get a Rowena Ravenclaw card which I treasured. It’s now sitting neatly on my work desk.
Hogwarts Crest Keychains
Where to Buy: Dervish & Banges
Everyone needs some form of seal to make it official. This seals the deal.
House Scarf
Where to Buy: Filch’s Emporium
Which house are you? Not that I’m Slytherin, but I’m a sucker for anything emerald in color. So this scarf pairs well with ankle boots and leather wear. If you wear it in the park, the actors will most likely greet you as they make their way to sing with the frogs.
Marauder’s Map
Where to Buy: Dervish & Banges
The elusive Marauder’s Map! This is the hardest to spot and in fact, gets sold out very quickly. I reckon they only sell it in limited stocks so best to grab one when you do have the chance!
Marauder’s Mug
Where to Buy: Dervish & Banges
And if you don’t get to buy the map, the Marauder’s Mug fills in that void. Mischief managed!
Hermione’s Time Turner 18K Necklace
One of the most beautiful merchandises I saw at the park is Hermione’s Time Turner. It looks so delicate, and is a great gift to anyone back home. This comes in either keychain or necklace, both of which are great bargains.
Butterbeer
It’s not enough for you to just drink Butterbeer in the park. They sell Butterbeers you can take home and even candy drops just for you to reminisce the flavor should you wish to teleport yourself momentarily.
Monster Book of Monsters
Where to Buy: Flourish & Blotts
Finally, the Monster Book of Monsters is one huge load to carry home, but it’s collectors item that very few Harry Potter fans own. Are you gonna be left out?
Of course, Zonko’s Joke Shop sells Extendable Ears, Puking Pastilles, and Skelegro for the fun pranksters, and it would a shame not to shop for these once the crowd thins out.
