Traif NY: Globally Sourced Soul Food at Williamsburg, Brooklyn
Man, where do I start about Traif? Be prepared for a length post full of dishes from this 10-course tasting menu.
Opened right beside their sister restaurant Xixa, Traif has this incredible 10-course tasting menu that with anything goes from scallops, to pork chops and foie gras, all for a well spent $55 tasting menu. They put on more emphasis on pork so it can get deadly.
Traif – Lunch
It’s like gazpacho. This cold shot of soup prepares your taste buds with a creamy and refreshing taste. Great for the summer!
Fresh Mission Figs & its Mostarda, Burrata Cheese, Shaved Foie, Thai Basil, and Hazelnuts drizzled with balsamic vinegar.
Spicy Bigeye Tuna Tartare, Tempura Japanese Eggplant, Kecap Manis. This is definitely one of my favorites.
Foie Gras topped with rasberries, raisins, apricots. I wasn’t a huge fan of this, because I felt like I was eating an entire slab of butter.
Seared Dayboat Scallops, Snap & English Pea Risotto with Caper-Tomato-Lemon brown butter. I want an entire plate to myself. This was ridiculously delicious.
Sautéed Sweetbreads with roasted asparagus, cauliflower, Hon Shimeji’s, Shiitake mushrooms and English peas. Not everyone is a fan of eating sweetbreads, but I am.
Buffalo-Style Frog Legs, Blue Cheese with fresh & pickled watermelon and celery salad on the side. Something different than the usual frog legs.
Hampshire Pork Belly with hearts of palm, bacon, snow peas, cauliflower, mango. Like I said, Traif is big on pork and this one doesn’t disappoint. It’s so tender and juicy.
Parisienne Gnocchi, Cremini mushrooms, truffle chive cream, and fresh black truffles A little salty but this was a great dish.
Earl Grey Tea Panna Cotta with winter citrus and pomegranate. Really dainty and refreshing, not so sweet ending for a meal.
Traif Dinner
Traif was so good, we went back for dinner! There were some repeats, but we finally got some of the dishes we wanted to eat like their duck.
Soup for Amuse-Bouche.
Parisienne Gnocchi. Still good!
Crispy eggplant tempura is becoming one of my clear favorites.
Ah, the Dayboat Scallops attracting my taste buds with its red blood risotto.
Roasted pork belly, piquillo peppers, ramp-green olive almond pesto, and black olive caramel. This was a stronger dish compared to the pork chops.
This time, we also had some Pinot Noir to pair. You can also add $35 to your meal if you want a wine tasting to go along with your tasting menu.
Roasted duck breast a l’orange, mandarins, blood orange, pumpkin, banana and red wine. This was just unbelievable. Great classic French dish.
Bbq, braised short rib sliders, sweet potato fries, smoked paprika aioli . This was a welcome change for the meal.
Crispy-glazed, General Tso’s Sweetbreads, Fried Brusselsprouts, Szechuan Chili, and Sesame. This was a different take to the sweetbreads but I like this better. It has an Asian taste.
Strawberry Cinnamon-glazed Berkshire Baby Back Ribs. This was alright in my opinion but the meat was tender.
Seared foie gras, sunny egg and maple hot sauce. Alright, this was LOADS better than that slab of butter for lunch course.
Mom’s key lime pie, honey graham crust and pineapple. It was good but not memorable for me.
Bacon-doughnuts, dulce de leche and coffee rum ice cream. Alright, you just HAVE to try this. Traif is incredibly well-known for this.
The verdict? Traif is one of Brooklyn’s top restaurants that you must try. Go with large groups so you can have a great time!
