Baristart Coffee, Bonifacio Global City, Taguig, Philippines

One of the much-awaited coffee shops opening in Manila, Baristart. In Singapore, Baristart is one of my favorites along Tras Street, from its cream puffs to the flat white… I can never go wrong with it.

The Verdict? Close. The prices were attractive, cheaper than exorbitant Singapore (especially with the rising GST), with a few misses. (Php 250 at Baristart in PH, almost SGD 9 in Singapore) The customer service was accommodating enough. Even though our table was quite a nuisance, the staff was patient through and through.

I find the cream puff lacking among the rest. The puff needs more air, and if you compare with my photos at Baristart’s Singapore outpost, the shell at the BGC’s shop is heavier, thicker and loaded with cream.

The cream is less light and not cold in temperature. I wonder if it is caused by the hot weather, but then so is Singapore. The taste is still creamy and worthy of the Hokkaido Biei Jersey Milk hype.

Meanwhile, both the Hokkaido Carbonara and flat whites are noteworthy. The creaminess shines and lactose intolerants might probably make an exception to eat here.

Got to try out their Tonkatsu Sando. The flavor is not that bad, though the pork as usual is slightly tough to chew.

For those who want to eat a meal and not just cream puffs and coffee, Baristart’s menu is balanced for those who want rice bowls, sandwiches or pasta. And some Hokkaido ice cream to cap your meal wouldn’t hurt.
