Common Man Stan, Stanley Street, Singapore

Finally, after much procrastination, I was able to try out Common Man Coffee Roasters. I tried their branch at Martin Road once, and while their ambiance definitely impressed me, that cup of long black did not. It didn’t taste fresh to me, as if their coffee beans had been sitting in their machines for quite some time.

But I’m pretty sure their brunch was more stellar, and so I dropped by the Stan at where else — Stanley Street. Here, I decided to skip their coffee.

I got the Organic Eggs Benedict ($26) and it did not disappoint.

(On another note, it’s crazy how much Singapore’s brunch scene just racked up their prices in a span of a year. Well, ingredients do get really expensive nowadays because of supply chain challenges. Nowadays, brunches in Singapore can cost around $40-$50 per person.)

Anyways, I love CMCR’s Eggs Benedict. This one is two perfectly poached eggs drizzled with hollandaise sauce. I can taste a bit of paprika, which adds depth to the otherwise very savory dish. Underneath the lovely golf balls is a bed of tender braised ox cheeks.

The meat is so tender; I felt like it was made for me. I forgot to let the server know I wanted wholemeal toast, because I wasn’t sure if the sourdough bread was going to be tough to chew. But surprisingly, the artisanal sourdough bread was one of the best I’ve tried. Definitely will come back for this piece of bread.

The service is fantastic and everyone’s friendly. I’d say if Martin Road is a bit of a trek for you, CMCR Stan has all the selection Martin Road has to offer. I’ve got a new favorite brunch place. (No matter how much I try to stay away from eating eggs in restaurants.)
