I’ve been wanting to try out dough for so long since hearing it’s more than just a pastry shop. From duck focaccia to rosti, dough’s menu is intriguing, a blend of Japanese flavors on comfort dishes. Dough is created by the makers behind Glyph Supply Co, so I had high expectations for it.
I went straight for the big guns — dough platter. At first glance, the 200g smoked chili maple bacon steak is already a winner. On the platter: mushrooms, scrambled eggs, charred brussel sprouts drizzled with balsamiq vinegar, half a tomato, and two slices of focaccia. It’s already quite a mouthful even for two diners. Many shared a platter, and then pastries. The scones look really delightful. Some went for the crowd-favorite vegetarian with its Swiss Rosti. (It’s nice knowing you can get a Rosti other than Marche.)
dough platter – $28
I liked the bacon steak best. It reminded me of Sweet Maple’s Millonnaire’s Bacon, though thicker and fattier. Sometimes it can become a fat overload, but the brussel sprouts cut through all that oil and gave that tang you need. I thought the tomato was overkill, but if you’re going for a deconstructed omelette, dough does it inventively.
Latte is pretty good. At $5, it is a steal nowadays. (Coffee keeps on getting more expensive in Singapore, btw.) I thought the pastries were a bit of a stretch for me, especially as I couldn’t finish my platter. But I would love to return again and try it out on a nice sunny afternoon.
