I was finally able to try out Lucha Loco at Duxton Hill. Everyone’s been raving that it’s the best Mexican fare in Singapore. I was suddenly curious because the best Mexican foods I’ve tried were either in Valencia Street, Mission District in San Francisco or back in San Antonio, Texas. I really am super cautious calling it the best Mexican restaurant ever.
So I ordered the basic ones — tacos. It’s what their known for. Frankly, if they can’t top the fish tacos that Coffee Academics does here in Singapore, I don’t think I’m coming back.
It was alright, IMO. The Baja fish taco was a little bland, though I liked the corn tortilla — definitely tasted some authenticity there. But there’s something missing in it. I found it lacking in something moist, and perhaps it’s the lack of chipotle mayo that made me a little bored with it.
The Chorizo and Brisket was also dry. I like that the taco was extra big for a single serve taco, but two of which were going to be too much for one person.
Elote was perfectly done well, and I thought it had subtle spiciness to kick things up a notch from the flatness of the dishes. If you’ve ever eaten Mexican cuisine, it’s hardly boring.
Between this and Papi’s Tacos, I found the latter better in terms of price, location, and taste. Sad to say, it’s not the best Mexican restaurant I ever tried. And if this was boring, I bet its Robertson Quay outpost Super Loco would likely be the same.
