Mr. Holmes Bakehouse, Scotts Road, Singapore
Ah memories. I remembered the California Croissant at Mr. Holmes Bakehouse near Tenderloin in San Francisco. It was perhaps the only thing I recalled back then. That and of course the crazy queues. (AND having our boxes of pastries and my half-drunk Intelligentsia brew stolen in a laundromat. I still am pissed until today.)
Suffice to say I thought it’s over for Mr. Holmes Bakehouse (and for my California Croissant dreams) after a slew of scandals hit them, culminating in a bankruptcy filing last year.
7 years later, Mr. Holmes Bakehouse lands in Singapore. To my disappointment, California Croissant isn’t offered in the menu. That gave me the time to try out their Cruffins. Minus the queues. Hooray.
Thai Milk Tea Cruffin
Here’s their local Thai Milk Tea Cruffin. Tastes a bit like earl grey tea with a hint of boba. But the croissant, above all, was delicious and crunchy.
I got baked in Singapore. I hope they bring the California Croissant soon to their menu. I’d be their first customer.
