PN Resto Bar, Holland Village, Singapore

I’m wary of restaurants who seem to always rebrand and revamp themselves. To me, that’s a red flag for a restaurant who can’t seem to finalize their concept. That was the case with PN Resto Bar, who used to be known as Black Pearl Steakhouse, now known as Perle Noire. Translation: Also Black Pearl. For whatever the reasons of their rebranding, I’m going to ignore that, because I had been looking for a restaurant that serves good quality steak at affordable prices.

And PN Resto Bar doesn’t disappoint my cravings. Their lunch sets were affordable. You can get Grass Fed Ribeye steaks for $36.90++, complete with starters and a cup of coffee or tea.

Escargot Bourguignon – $18 for Ala Carte

I highly recommend getting the Escargot Bourguignon to share. 6 pieces of escargots perfectly cooked with garlic butter oil. Toasts are served on the house and it’s perfect for dipping in the garlic butter oil.

Grass fed Rib Eye Steak

Meanwhile the ribeye delivers, though it can get overwhelming after some escargots. The Ribeye has the right amount of fat and oil that works perfectly with a glass of Malbec, my usual go to for Argentine steaks. I have no issues with my medium ribeye, whose meat is just perfectly seared. No frills needed. I find the shitake mushroom sauce isn’t even necessary for a greatly seasoned peace of steak.

Canadian Pacific Oysters – $28

To those on a happy hour, PN Resto Bar serves freshly shucked Canadian Pacific Oysters, which are — I can attest, after eating a lot during my trip to Toronto and Vancouver — undoubtedly really great oysters. They’re somewhat of the same size as the ones I’ve tried at the San Francisco Fish company at Embarcadero or even Bourdain’s favorite Swan Oyster Depot in Van Ness Avenue. But these will do, considering the distance between the Pacific and Singapore.

I recommend getting a plate to share, particularly on the hours of happy hour when they’re free flowing for an hour and a half.

Baileys Irish Cream Tiramisu – $18

Dinner set meals come with desserts at incredible value. While the Baileys Irish Cream Tiramisu isn’t the best I’ve tried (nor is the most authentic) (io Italian Osteria remains my favorite, L’Atelier TiramiSu is second in line), let’s give it a slide. The tiramisu was a strong dessert to cap off an executive style meal.

If you’re looking for affordable steaks but don’t want to stretch your budget (and still get the perfect dinner and hangout vibes), look no further than PN Resto Bar.
