Have you been so disappointed with a restaurant you wish you can turn back time? We’ve all been there. I can probably name a few restaurants here in Singapore where I’m just not going to go back. That includes Prive. Now that I’ve mentioned Prive, SPRMRKT at Dempsey Hill is just like the former. Overpriced brunch items. Subpar customer service. (And I totally understand the crunch and stress when it comes to labor nowadays, but this was downright unacceptable if you’re going to charge service charge.) But being situated in Dempsey Hill doesn’t make it any better. And oh yeah, this reminds me of Blu Kouzina too, another TikTok popular spot but is an utter gastronomic ripoff. These are some of the restaurants I would never go back to again.
The food at SPRMKRT was mediocre. Nothing special here. Breakfast Platter ($29). French Toast ($22). Truffle Fries ($14). (The only good dish that I liked were the Buttermilk Pancakes ($22), but not good enough for me to come back to.) These are basic dishes that you can find in any other brunch spot. But the prices, barring inflation, were just not worth it. All these dishes can cost you roughly $100. I’d rather buy a peking duck at Mott 32 for $108. (I know that’s not apples to apples, but just to illustrate that brunch prices have skyrocketed so bad, it’s no longer economical even taste and quality-wise.)
If you’re just car spotting, Dempsey Hill is the place to be, but you want to grab a cup of joe, I suggest you go find it at Da Paolo or even Burnt Ends Bakery, but don’t expect SPRMRKT to give you yours promptly — we didn’t even get served with our coffee orders.
