If you can’t get enough of cafes — and I’m puked from all the cafes opening in Singapore, tbh — Homegrown TAG Espresso opened a hidden cafe near Ngee Ann City’s Tower B.

And it’s a miserable, miserable location. You can’t even find it unless you know where the entrance to Tower B offices are. But of course, the Tiktoker in you would never back down until you find this cafe.

But it all just falls flat after your adventure to find TAG Espresso, which by now, everyone already knows. Because it’s just another coffee shop.

Forget the wonky furniture. I’m also going to close my eyes that it’s too commercialized, decked out in silver, blue and letter Ts.

Prawn Aglio Olio. Carbonara. Truffle Gyudon. Teriyaki Chicken bowls. Yeah, every single cafe in Singapore nowadays serves the same overpriced fare.

And yeah where is the quintessential Cold Buckwheat Soba topped with Ikura?

I appreciate TAG Espresso’s set meal catering to office workers on weekdays. Though $19.90 for a set meal is crazy expensive. Probably something you’d eat on a Lunch out Friday.

Spare me from all these bowls, I don’t need to try it out except the coffee. I’m not here to try out the Iced Kaya Pandan Latte. That sounds fancy and an obvious competitor to There Was No Coffee.

TAG Espresso uses 100% Arabica beans from Ethiopia, Columbia, Guatemala, Brazil and Sumatra regions. The flat white isn’t insanely expensive at $6, which I appreciate. Strong crema, nice latte art, full bodied. I like it, but then, I don’t really need to replace my go-to cafes like Tiong Bahru Bakery, Paris Baguette and the everyday Toast Box.

Singapore cafes need an overhaul.

Oh and China’s Luckin Coffee is opening right outside Takashimaya this March 2023 too.
