Proper steak, my ass.

I had high hopes for the Feather Blade after hearing about raving reviews about its cheap steak, burgers, and gyudon bowls. For well below 50 bucks, you can enjoy flatiron steaks, go fancy with foie gras, scallops, lobster tails and Bernaise sauce — the gold of all steak sauces — and still enjoy familiar sides like creamed spinach and its popular Ikura potatoes.

So at that price, it seemed, as consumers, we’re not supposed to demand good quality steak. Is that even right? Because, sure, what can you expect from a $21 steak?

I, for one, expected, a steak that has flavor. A steak that isn’t bland. A steak that isn’t going to hurt my jaws for chewing it. A restaurant who knows what steak fundamentals are. Because, why not, you opened a steak restaurant. You should have done a decent steak, right? I’m not talking about reaching parillas ala Argentina’s La Cabrera and steakhouses like Wolfgang’s, or Michelins like Burnt Ends. I’m talking about cooking an edible steak.

So that’s my review for The Feather Blade. Go look at the photos and you’ll see that its medium rare flat iron is watery, bland, and unseasoned despite a few pinches of salt. It’s the most disgusting steak I have ever eaten, bar none. And I wonder what’s with all those new food bloggers on TikTok raving about their steak. This is the worst I have eaten. I’m never going back.

That tiny foie gras on top ($11) did nothing to elevate my dining experience. I couldn’t wait to finish my meal. I wanted to get it over with.

Onto the next restaurant.

(Though I’m thinking about taking a quick break from all the middle-range restaurants in Singapore. They’re such hits and misses, I felt like I was wasting a lot of money on substandard food like this one.)
