El Born Happy Hour and Catalan-Inspired Spanish Tapas at Greenpoint, Brooklyn
Boasting 4.9 star ratings and 4.5 out of 5 stars on Yelp, El Born is Spanish Tapas and Happy Hour destination concocted by Chef restaurateurs Diego Gonzales and Elena Manich. With influences from Barcelona, El Born’s Spanish Tapas doesn’t disappoint. While it’s a trek to Greenpoint and can be a commute hassle, it’s automatically a must for anyone looking to explore Greenpoint. Named after the Catalan owner’s neighborhood once devoid of tapas joints, El Born adds character to Greenpoint’s growing foodie destination for young hipsters and locals who are always on the hunt for the best happy hour in the area.
Sangrias – $9 by the glass, $32 by pitcher
What’s Spanish Tapas without Sangrias? El Born’s Sangrias create crafty taste to whatever you’re ordering.
Croquetes del dia – $9
Mint, Goat Cheese and pine nuts within crusty exterior, El Born’s Croquetes is a great starter for any meal.
Spanish Tortilla with cheese and egg and potato
Love this tortilla with egg and cheese.
Xistorres – $9
Chorizo on a stick with this Sunchoke Puree is great for meat lovers. El Born is mostly vegetarian but their meat dishes every now and then strike a surprise.
Alberginia a la romana – $9
Crispy eggplant with sour cream and honey mustard sauce. Absolutely delicious you’ll want two of these orders.
Paella de verdures – $19 per order (Minimum of 2 orders)
Paella was supposed to be a side dish but then everyone ordered one so we had this huge paella in front of us. Highly recommend this for large groups. Onion sofritos and vegetables accompany our paella. They also have Paella de piex (squid ink) if that’s your preference.
Pork Belly on Watermelon
This one is a seasonal dish in Summer. I mean, who comes up with this? It’s so good. That pork belly crunch infused with the sweetness of watermelon is just genius.
If you’re looking to pregame before you go crazy in Williamsburg, go for El Born.
