Ample Hills Creamery NYC

It came from Gowanus

I don’t think that kind of flavor makes the ice cream appealing. Thinking of Gowanus, the idea of oil refineries comes into mind. But this is Ample Hills Creamery. I, too, lived in Brooklyn, of Ample Hills was mine.

Ice cream is always a happy topic. When it comes to ice cream, I’m a bit biased that I like Bi Rite Creamery better. After trying out Ample Hills, Bi Rite Creamery STILL wins my heart. (And in a case of bias-ception, the idea of San Francisco will always be home to me.)

I tried their Bourbon St flavor, Vanilla bean ice cream filled with Maker Mark’s bourbon and homemade pecan praline. It’s tasteful but at the same time intriguing in so many dimensions. I could taste the faint hint of Bourbon cutting through the creaminess of the ice cream. But the best part was the pecan, which I detest. I normally hate nuts with ice cream.

It’s election season, so they’ve got flavors Make America Orange Again and Madame President in their fall lineup. I don’t think I’ll be getting any of those two flavors. It doesn’t sound very appetizing to me.

On the other hand, I’ve tried their scoop of Coffee mixed with Toffee. While made with Stumptown Coffee, their sole coffee flavored ice cream is weak on so many levels. Bi Rite Creamery’s Blue Bottle Coffee still wins my vote.

Nevertheless, Ample Hills remains the best in NYC.
