The coffee crawl begins in Osaka. Mornings in Osaka tend to be chilly. Everyone wants a silent space to nurse a hangover using a cup of latte.

If there is one coffee shop I thoroughly miss in Osaka, it would be Granknot. The reason? It’s the only coffee shop who manages to retain its latte art after you sip the whole coffee. There’s only one other coffee shop I know who can do that, and that’s Cafe Corridor in Hong Kong.

Granknot is frequented by coffee connoisseurs, bloggers and foodies alike, in this colorful neighborhood of Tachibana Dori (立花通り) or Orange Street. At Tachibana Dori, the hip, fashionable, and trendy thrive for a world of their own, which creates a whole different side of Osaka that you can explore, just as Harajuku has done for Tokyo. No surprises as there are also a couple of bloggers who were waiting patiently outside the store to open at 8:00 in the morning.

I love Granknot’s latte. You can choose to have their sandwich set (650 yen) early in the morning. I got the Chicken Sandwich which didn’t disappoint. It was pretty impressive for a single barista to serve the best breakfast of my trip in Osaka.

Granknot also sells Sightglass Coffee, which surprised me as I have tried it at Ritual Coffee Roasters in San Francisco. While I was tempted to purchase a bag, I saved my yen instead for a single origin Japanese coffee beans, in case I found one.
