I won’t beat around the bush for Halal Guys on 53rd and 6th. It’s the best food cart that’s different from the rest. If you can recall, I was so disappointed with the Halal Guys Manila franchise, calling it the most epic fail restaurant opening of the century. No one replaces Basmati rice with Jasmine rice. That’s just wrong.

Imagine my excitement, saying goodbye to the fugly Halal Guys franchise in the Philippines, and finally, finally having the real deal at NYC. I still prefer the Halal Guys at 53rd Street over the restaurant at 14th street. This is no frills, the fastest Halal you can get to satiate your cravings.

And it’s simply amazing to have it within minutes of lining up, despite the long queues. Yes, occasionally lines build up because they have to cook gyro and chicken and the rice on the spot. But Halal Guys is a machine, after you hand out your money to this guy who has a wad of moolah on his hand. This is efficiency at its finest.

Within 15 minutes after lining up, I finally had my combo over rice – beautifully cooked gyro and chicken only for 7 bucks. I economically drizzle the world famous white sauce, generously dripped the fire hot sauce over the pita, chicken and gyro, and wolfed down.

After the first layer, more white sauce came raining down on my plate.

This is madness in a bowl. You’ll have to try it to actually find out what it tastes like. To those who thought this was all the hype there is, appreciate something this inventive in NYC for only 7 bucks. Where else could you find that??

The scenic view doesn’t hurt. People passing by Halal Guys hastily snapped photos, before finally deciding on lining up. A lot of out-of-towners still don’t know about Halal Guys and why it’s becoming more of a tourist institution every day.

Don’t hesitate to line up for the best gyro over rice. It’s simply a sin to miss out on it.
