KAMAKURA RAMEN Osaka 鎌倉

It’s no secret I love ramen. There’s one particular kind of ramen that is my ultimate favorite ~ Miso-based ramen. That being said, I always tend to stay away from Shio or Shoyu-based ramen because I wanted a creamier soup base.

I wasn’t on a quest to find the best ramen in Osaka, but my itchy feet led me to a ramen chain that I was cautiously trying to avoid ~ Kamakura Ramen. It was way too colorful, commercialized and looked like a tourist trap. Appearances can be deceiving, and it turned out I was wrong.

Kamakura Ramen is one of the best ramen I’ve tried in Japan. And it’s Shoyu-based.

Like any other ramen chain, there’s a vendo machine that would spit out your order. I couldn’t resist a bowl of ramen that has corn toppings, so I got the Roast Char Siu Shoyu Ramen with Corn and Boiled Egg, for only 780 yen.

It’s life-changing. The soup is immaculate in flavor, no complexities right there, which is ironic for a ramen bowl.

The noodles are even springy, and I enjoyed putting some chili oil on it.

Needless to say, Kamakura changed my mind about Shoyu Ramen. It’s every bit as exciting as my favorite Miso Ramen.

Kamakura Ramen also serves affordable set meals, such as noodle and roast pork rice bowl combo complete with either a side order of gyoza or chicken Karaage. They go well below 1000 yen, so this meal is really light on your pocket. I actually sat beside a guy who ate the entire set by himself.

Maybe I’ll starve myself on my next trip to Osaka and grab an entire set to eat.

P.S. Glad Kamakura has an english translation. Potentiometer, really, Google Translate?
