After a long work week, I met up with a friend who took me to this hip Japanese izakaya/eatery in Greenpoint. The outdoor space was airy and had Japanese vibes — and of course, I would instantly like anything Japanese. But bias aside, Rule of Thirds was one of the restaurants that merited a second visit.
Belladonna of Sadness
Started off with the Belladonna of Sadness… because I couldn’t pass up drinking something based on Japanese whisky.
Watermelonade
My friend ordered this fun watermelonade drink.
Yuzu Hot Honey Salad
We ordered greens because the amount of meat we were about to eat needed fiber.
Yaki Onigiri
Loved this onigiri. The onigiri was grilled. Who does that?! Blown away with this dish.
Chicken Meatball and Lamb Tongue
Thought the chicken meatball tasted like Tori Q in Singapore. But the Lamb Tongue was melt-in-your-mouth goodness. The best dish ever.
Duck Hearts
Duck Hearts took my heart too. I found myself chewing the duck heart longer in my mouth because I simply didn’t want it to end.
Blade Steak Tonkatsu
My friend and I shared the Blade Steak Tonkatsu. This fatty pork shoulder coated in crispy panko breadcrumbs and marinaded in sake kasu koji was the highlight of the meal. I felt that this ranked second to the Iberico Tonkatsu from Llama San.
For anyone looking to eat before partying in Williamsburg, Rule of Thirds deserves the top spot.
