I have a new favorite coffee shop at Suntec, and it’s surprisingly Korean.
I am not a huge fan of Korean food — they’re all color orange — so me liking Seoul’s Compose Coffee should come as a surprise if you know me.
And all the more surprising is that Compose is well known for its kroffles. I had an aversion to this abomination — a portmanteau between croissant and waffles, two of mankind’s greatest inventions only to be squeezed into one creation for no good reason. Not to forget my last kroffle was at Walking on Sunshine in Orchard Central, some random Korean hair salon who thought they can get away with kroffles buffet. I swore never to eat kroffles again until Compose Coffee.
These cinnamon flavored Kroffles are the bomb. It’s crispy and sugary sweet and I don’t think it’s a haphazard croissant squeezed in a waffle maker at all. It’s the perfect afternoon snack. Don’t you forget to order Sangha vanilla ice cream. I hate ice cream too, but loved this soft serve along with Kroffles. Perfect for Singapore’s unforgiving weather.
The latte is terrific, a mere $3.90 for a grande cup for its opening promotion. Pretty soon the prices are going to jack up, but make sure you try out their discounted Tiramisu for only $7.90.
Nope. Throw away your diet because the tiramisu is one of the best I’ve tried. The portion size is huge and its own rendition of Nonna’s classic dessert feels a little Korean.
I can’t for the life of me wonder why Compose Coffee only has 3.7 stars on Google Maps. It’s not the best coffee, but it delivers the premise; kroffles, ice cream, and sugary iced latte drinks. You get it.
