To be completely honest, if I hadn’t been to Starbucks Reserve Roastery in Seattle, I would have been wowed at the Milan outpost. But then having been there already, Starbucks Reserve Roastery in Milan was a little anti-climactic for me.
Perhaps, I expected more of an Italian adaptation of Starbucks Reserve beyond interiors. Y’know, the classic standing espresso room with Italians clamoring for their cuppa in the morning, and an array of direct-to-consumer coffee beans in front of you. Now that is a Starbucks Reserve I would go to. After all, this is Milan. This is Italy.
Instead, all it was a miniature version of Seattle’s impressive tasting room. And I was left with just lining up for a classic tall latte of Costa Rica origins and my favorite, tiramisu.
I do think their tiramisu wins my heart, authentic as it can go. The roastery was so crowded you hardly can see the different stations, unlike in Seattle, where it’s all laid out well from Princi slices of pizza to playful espresso martinis and coffee snobs dealing with their struggles between hario v60 or the siphon method. I suddenly missed Seattle.
Perhaps, I had too high of expectation. But, I would still recommend Starbucks Reserve Roastery to anyone visiting Milan. After all, what else is there to do after Duomo?
