There is something so wonderful at Angelina Cafe that I can’t pinpoint. I don’t know if it’s airy space or the allure of drinking hot chocolate in Parisienne interiors or the brand. And while its dishes or pastries aren’t the best, I always seem to find myself drawn to Angelina.
So in Dubai, I can’t resist getting another cup of hot chocolate. There is a queue most of the time, but nothing longer than 30 minutes.
One thing I appreciate here is the bread basket, served with Isigny beurre.
Angelina manages to retain the quality of its L’African hot chocolate, despite it being a franchise in Dubai.
We ordered some light bites — Club Sandwich and Truffle Cream Penne. The Club Sandwich, standard. The Truffle Penne, better than most truffle pasta, except the smell of truffle can be overpowering at times.
For dessert, we shied away from the popular Mont Blanc, and decided to get the Pistachio Cheesecake. I loved the creaminess of the cheesecake and the subtle taste of Pistachio. It came with a side of Pistachio cream, but again nothing like the cakes of Vienna where the cream is mountainous and abundant.
I got a nice up of cappuccino to cap the afternoon tea session.
Angelina Paris shouldn’t be the #1 in your bucket list, especially if there are other cafes that deserve attention such as L’etto or Hafiz Mustafa. But if you have an extra day to spare, Angelina has that charm to slow down the fast paced life of Dubai.
