While you’re getting impatient about Baristart opening in BGC, there’s Auro Chocolate Cafe to satiate your sweet cravings.
I love the local flair of the cafe. This award-winning chocolate institution is what I believe the Philippines should have been striving to accomplish from the very beginning: locally source the country’s cocoa beans and commercialize it. Some of the best chocolate products in the world can be found in Davao. Now that the world’s chocolate supply is challenged, there’s no better time to start the Filipino sourced products movement than today.
At the flagship store at BGC, you can sample Philippines’ best chocolate bars from dark to milk to white. Chocolate and peanut butter spreads that make you think twice about your Nutella cravings. Viennoiseries that are some of the best in the metro. I highly recommend getting the humble croissant. Perfect for dipping in a cup of dark chocolate au lait. That’s one luscious treat.
Or have a triple chocolate macademia cookie. It’s perfectly moist at the center.
But while you get lulled into chocolate dreams, I encourage you to order their chicken and ube waffles. Auro’s rendition puts Little Flour’s Ube Macapuno waffles to shame. I get the depth of ube I’m seeking in ube waffles, plus a surprisingly crispy and salty fried chicken best dipped with a side of coco jam.
I’d say Auro’s opening at BGC is one of the best restaurant openings in 2023. Now we’ll just have to wait for Baristart’s Hokkaido cream puffs.
