I’m not going to beat around the bush about Breakfast at Antonio’s opening at Robinsons Magnolia. Of course, we all welcome it. Who wants to drive in crazy Manila traffic just to eat breakfast in Tagaytay?

Breakfast at Antonio’s opening at Robinsons Magnolia is probably the best thing that happened since a slump in post pandemic restaurant openings. So much so that I even welcomed their haphazard operations (which was still way way above the acceptable range — I am still looking at you, Cafe Kitsune Singapore). The restaurant can be seen hurrying upholstery couple of days before May 12th, no doubt rushing to open for Mother’s Day.

But finally, Breakfast at Antonio’s is here. The OG remains still the best IMO, thought the corned beef is fresh, tender and one that I would come back to. The queues are insane, my breakfast at Antonio’s no longer a breakfast but a dinner affair that led me to wait for more than 2 hours just to eat. The restaurant stopped accepting customers at an early 6:30pm given the massive welcome, and that’s acceptable for day 1. I’m impressed at the trainees being able to meet the veteran staffs’ pace, though there were some hiccups with the bill.

Don’t expect huge servings at Breakfast at Antonio’s. Everything is a tad smaller in portion, the price becoming a standout criticism for many customers. Remove the foggy allure of Taal Lake, and you’re left with just a regular restaurant with prices higher than its competitors Manam, Conti’s, and Mary Grace. If you can’t wait for the line, the latter 3 (save for Conti’s) might satiate your tocilog and comfort food cravings. Otherwise there’s merit in waiting just to try. And if you do manage to get a table (no reservations allowed *yet*), I recommend getting a whole rack of ribs. Surprisingly tender and fall off the bone.

Carbonara – P555

P.S. Pedro the Grocer is also right next door with their usual crowd favorites Japanese White bread, Truffle Butter, fermented garlic butter, housemade ice cream, and Spanish sardines.
