Cafe Luluc, Cobble Hill, Brooklyn NYC
There are many, many brunch spots in the beautiful neighborhood of Cobble Hill, but none can attract a crowd like Cafe Luluc. Best known for its pancakes, you could wait beyond an hour just to get seated at this French bistro with garden seating. While my initial intent was to try out their pancakes, the brunch turned into noon and it was time for lunch. I had to eat something substantial other than floppy pancakes.
Poached Eggs with Gravlax Salmon on English Muffin
Served with tossed arugulas and the deadliest french fries I ever had, this so-called “balanced meal” and an attempt to eat something healthy goes incredibly awry. Hollandaise sauce is drizzled over not-so-perfect poached eggs in moderation. While I appreciate the saltiness of the salmon, it was the fries that made the dish outstanding. I couldn’t stop snacking on them.
I didn’t totally disliked my choice of dish, but I wasn’t a fan of it either.
Croque Madame
The Croque Madame was nothing like Baker Street Bistro in San Francisco. The cheese which was supposed to raise the bar for a great sandwich fell flat, and the ham (already by nature, uninteresting, in my opinion) made the Croque Madame worse.
Nutella French Toast
If you want diabetes attack, nothing beats Cafe Luluc’s Nutella Fresh Toast. This is just sugar heaven. I couldn’t resist drizzling it with more maple syrup, as if the confectionary sugar ain’t enough.
While I didn’t try the pancakes, several tables were complaining of their pancakes. Topped with assorted fruits, the cakey texture (as I could see it from my angle) seemed dry. The honeybees were very much interested in diving straight for the strawberries.
Cafe Luluc only accepts cash, by the way.
