Very rarely were those days when I would have a free day all to myself when in NYC. Often I would run around for meetings, and they would stretch long that I didn’t have the chance to try out the newest steak and frites restaurant down the block. Visiting the Harry Potter store in Broadway was an employee excuse. And remaining hours were spent catching up with friends I haven’t seen for a while.

So on a blue moon day, I decided to visit Patisserie Fouet: one of the hottest patisseries in NYC at the moment.

They employ French and Japanese techniques in their desserts, and also serve a tasting menu for those with the luxury of time to indulge at night. Their signature dessert in that tasting menu is the matcha souffle dessert, and Fouet does it well. On the other hand, during regular hours, I couldn’t decide what to get the moment I entered their store.

When in doubt, always go for the Mont Blanc. (It’s becoming my default dessert to go; I just couldn’t get enough of chestnuts in cakes.) In Fouet’s case, this glass made of layers of meringue, cream, brulee, flan and chestnut paste did not disappoint.

Every layer was meticulously lined up and you’ll have to dig to the bottom to make sure every bite is as rich as the last.

Fouet’s outdoor seats are heaven-sent to those who want to get away from the fast-paced NYC. It has heaters as well for winter season. Definitely a must visit when in NYC.
