While sushi is the main reason why people go to Tsukiji, I promised myself to head for a nice cup of coffee at Turret Coffee which is just a few blocks away from Tsukiji Market, especially since I woke up very early to grab a sushi breakfast at Sushizanmai.

Turret Coffee, like Omotesando Koffee, is that hole-in-a-wall coffee shop that many would search just to capture its charm. But Turret Coffee isn’t that hard to find. Just make sure you have an internet access and Google Maps and the place shouldn’t be hard to find.

Owner Kiyoshi Kawasaki comes from the popular Streamer Coffee Company chain, also in Tokyo. The name Turret actually comes from the truck that delivers goods at Tsukiji market. That’s really unique.

With less than 10 seats indoors and about 2 spots outdoors, Turret Coffee can get incredibly full during peak times.

Turret Coffee has a simple menu, with Espresso, Turret Latte, Americano and to non-coffee drinkers, Chai Tea Latte.

I got myself Cafe Americano so I can taste its pure form.

It’s just about one of the strongest coffee I had in my life. I’m pretty sure I’d be wide awake. But the blend is not that fruity but full-bodied, which is not so much my preference however welcome in this early morning.

I noticed several tourists are already looking for this spot too, a clear sign that Turret Coffee is headed to be one of the destinations in any traveler visiting Tokyo.

To those having sushi for breakfast at Tsukiji, don’t forget to drop by Turret Coffee and change your morning routines. Sushi and Coffee was a perfect match.

Candid Cuisine Tip: On your way to Turret Coffee, you can drop by Yonemoto Coffee Head Shop 米本珈琲本店 where you can buy some coffee beans enjoy for pour over coffee. Owner also speaks good english so he can assist you in your granularity.
